Purging your closet the realistic way
The first step in the KonMarie method is to go through all of your clothes and only keep the clothes that spark joy. The way to go about this is to put every single piece of clothing in a pile and start sorting. So, yesterday, that is what I did. I gathered every single piece of clothing I could find and put it all in a pile. NASA would've considered the mound of clothing its own planet. I started sorting. 6 hours of sorting through clothes that I wore to work in 2016, clothes that I would go clubbing in 2010, everything in between and what I currently wear daily, I proudly boasted six bags of clothes that I will be donating. I then looked at what I had left.
What I had left was a pile of clothing that looked very similar to the size of the pile of clothing I had before. I am still very confused on how that happened. So I decided to try to wash all the clothing before putting it away. At this point, it was like midnight and I had the day off today (Wednesday). I decided to pull an all nighter to get this done. I moved the pile of clothing from the bedroom to the couch and started doing load after load of laundry until I was awakened in the morning from falling asleep curled up on the one teeny tiny section of the couch that was not covered in clothes. I wish I could say that I got right back to work. Instead, I went right back to bed. I woke up hours later with one mission. Finish that laundry and put the clothes away.
As I was folding the clean clothes that had made the cut, I started to come across some clothes that I was not completely sure would fit me. I had gained about 40 pounds since moving down to the south from the north. Marie Kondo says that if there is doubt to just throw it out. That seems to be a waste to me though because I really cannot afford to just be replacing clothes that genuinely spark joy. I went rouge from the program and set those clothes off to the side deciding if they fit, GREAT! If they don't, that will be okay as well. I'll just put them in another donate bag and send them off.
Putting away the clothes, I had decided it was best to just put them away and organize later since I only have about half of the close folded and ready to be put away. Since I am running out of time before my work week begins, I do believe that it will be a part of next week's special housework. Also, Next week, I would like to get to paper and books and then also start working on getting the rest of my home office cleaned out so I don't have to work wherever I can find space.
Anyways, have a fantastic week doing what y'all do and I'll see you here next week!
